She was a singer, performer and designer who broke through the barriers of the world of music. The Mexican-American singer was she was also a traditional. She brought Tejano into mainstream music. Much like when an incredibly bright and charming star dies far too early the tragic loss of her life has thrown her profile into a quagmire. Many mourned all of her potential, which was untapped. In the years since, her admirers are working even harder in an effort to never forget the achievements she's accomplished. The tragic death of Selena by a gunman caused the outpouring of emotions within Latino communities similar the way people reacted following Elvis Presley's death and John Lennon's. The music of Selena an artist who was hugely popular throughout Latino Communities across North America touched people young and old. Selena might have been described by many as the Latina Madonna, however she is still a great character model. Selena's values of family life offstage and involvement with AIDS awareness efforts are exemplary.
