Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She received an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell started working as a TV and radio reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1996, she became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began covering the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional Correspondent. Then, in 1992 she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the arms control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to numerous summits in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
